Great Verse

Due to an insane amount of trouble with our internet access over the last week, very little blogging or web surfing or emailing has occured.  My apologies.

Anyway…I’m reading in the Old Testament these days – no specific reason, just landed there in the “minor prophets” and started reading.  I read Zephaniah 3:17 this morning and was reminded of an old song we use to sing in my college fellowship  and what a great verse this is:

The LORD your God is with you,
       he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”

It’s hard for me to imagine a God who rejoices with singing over his people.  He delights in us like we delight over our kids.

The First Saturday of College Football!

In the great scheme of things, this is pretty inconsequential – but did you know that today is the first Saturday of the college football season?!?!?!?!?!?!?  Summer is almost over and the fall is almost here.  And, of course, fall is the best time of the year in central North Carolina.

Anyway…I’m excited about college football.  But, let me spiritualize this post with a “Verse for the Day.”

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

Have a great day of football watching and building others up!

Indeed

Every two months we give away as many “Indeed” devotionals as we can.  Each issue has daily devotional readings for two months (thus the reason we make them available every two months!).  If you ever read my blog, you know that the devotional book “My Utmost For His Highest” is still my favorite devotional book ($5 in the bookstore or free online), but “Indeed” is a good companion to Utmost.  We always have extra copies at church – take one for home, office, car, school, etc.  Take one or two to give away.

Care Package for Mike and Amy Boone Family

Mike and Amy Boone are missionaries currently serving in South Africa.  The Boones have 2 children – Grace (14) and Timothy (16).  Earlier this year, Amy and another missionary were the victims of a robbery in front the preschool children they were teaching.  Many things were stolen from them including ID’s, wallets, keys, a car, etc.  Most of these things have now been replaced.  When I asked how we could help, the Boones said they would be much encouraged to receive a “Care Package.”  Please see the lists below of things they would be most interested in receiving.

Saddleback Political Forum

I know this is old news, but I just watched the Saddleback Political Forum tonight.  I thought it was a great setting and very helpful in getting to know the candidates.  I hope you’ll check out the youtube videos of the event.  If anyone knows where I can find the whole two hours in one clip, let me know.

Did you know…

That I love to cook and eat chicken wings???  I never really discovered the joy that is hot wings until sometime after my college days, but now I can’t get enough of them.  And honestly, I’m cheap, but I really do believe my homemade wings are so much better than any I’ve found anywhere else – besides the fact that I can make them for cheaper than I buy them.

Anyway…usually, when I make wings, I provide at least 3 sauces for different palates.  But, beyond a shadow of a doubt, Ken’s Buffalo Wing Sauce is the ‘hands down” favorite for whatever group I’ve ever made them for.  The great thing about that is that Ken’s is the cheapest!  I got some “buy on get one free” the other day for $3!  That’s a dollar fifty a bottle (for the math challenged) compared to $5 or more for other brands.

If anybody has a sauce to recommend, please let me know.  And I also love “Old Time BBQ” hot sauce as well!

And, as Forrest Gump liked to say, “That’s all I got to say about that.”

Georgina’s – Best Restaurant in Morrisville!

Well, at least according to www.bridgecommunitychurch.net, Georgina’s is the best restaurant in Morrisville!  And this blogger concurs!  Congrats to Georgina’s for taking the most votes in our most recent poll.  Georgina’s took 26.9% of the vote, followed by Salsa Fresh which grabbed 23.8% of the vote.  Not surprisingly, Neomondes took third with 17.4% of the vote.  And I say, not surprisingly, because, despite the fact that I DON’T eat there, I know a lot of people do!  But back to Georgina’s – they have incredible pizza and incredible owners.  I hope you will follow this link, http://www.newsobserver.com/1132/story/553871.html, to read their story and review from the News and Disturber, I mean, Observer.  If you want to get a taste of Georgina’s at a great price, grab their lunch special of two HUGE slices of pizza and a soda for around five bucks.

Anyway…what will the next Bridge poll be?  Check out the website and feel free to offer any suggestions for future poll consideration!

National Night Out

National Night Out Logo

National Night Out Logo

Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the event on my computer yet, but I want to congratulate the Town of Morrisville and it’s public safety team for a great “National Night Out” on this past Tuesday.  Courtney and Jackson and I piled into the minivan and drove over to the Cedar Fork Community Center for the event.  Jackson had a blast seeing all the police cars, motorcycle, fire trucks, rescue vehicles, helicopters, etc.  Jackson got to “dunk” the fire chief at the dunking booth, jump in the inflatables, eat popcorn and get tons of free stuff!  They did a great job pulling off the event and I am so grateful for the service they offer to our community.  I don’t know how much the town was involved in the planning, but there were a lot of town leaders at the event – Mayor Jan, Town Manager John, and several board members in attendance!  Thank you all for serving our community!

I know I’m old now.

I’ve been telling a few people of my most recent and concrete “I’m old” moment.  Yes, we bought a minivan.  Then, as I waited for a light, I saw a white car with what appeared to be two teenage girls and one teenage boy, pulling up beside me in the turn lane.  I’m thinking, “Hey.  Teenagers.  Young.  Carefree. Kind of like me.”  But then I thought, “What would they see if they looked over here at me?”  Answer – old guy, minivan.  Could be their dad.  Yep, it’s official.  I’m old.  Oh well – you’re only as old as you want to be, or act.  I still mostly feel 25, and that’s alright with me.

On a sidenote, my good friend Dan, who happens to be in his late 50’s, just had successful heart surgury on Thursday to repair a valve in his heart!  Glad you’re doing well Dan!  Thanks to everyone who knew to pray for him.
