Well, I’d never heard of ID “TEN” T until a couple of weeks ago at church. I was working with a couple of our “techy” guys who run our media and sound on Sundays and who are often known for using technical language and jargon that the average “Joe” (me) doesn’t understand. And apparently I had done something wrong, technically speaking, and they were trying to correct the problem when one of them labeled the problem we were facing as a “OE” – operator error. The operator had been, of course, me. One of the other guys then pipes up and says, “We have another term for that in our office, ‘ID TEN T.'” It took us all a minute and then he says, “Write it out.” So we put on our thinking caps and begin writing it out in our minds – I D TEN T. I D 10 T. ID 10 T. IDIOT. Yep. Idiot. Very funny. Then someone reminded us of the military jargon – “G” “U” Eleven “Able.” Write that one out and see what you come up with.
Anyway…in as loving a way as possible, whenever you are confronted with your own incompetence, think to yourself “ID Ten T.” But not that you think you are really an “idiot” (I don’t think God would have us thingking that way), but that we don’t know everything and we do and say idiotic things soemtimes – and sometimes whe nwe do know better!
