Just a few “quotes of the day” for today:
“Heaven is not here, it’s There. If we were given all we wanted here, our hearts would settle for this world rather than the next. God is forever luring us up and away from this one, wooing us to Himself and His still invisible Kingdom, where we will certainly find what we so keenly long for.”
– Elisabeth Elliot
“The Bible talks plentifully about joy, but it nowhere talks about a ‘happy Christian.’ Happiness depends on what happens; joy does not.
Remember, Jesus Christ had joy, and He prays ‘that they might have My joy fulfilled in themselves.'”
– Oswald Chambers
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose”
– Jim Elliot
Love the Chambers quote…it speaks volumes to the reasons why many Christians (myself included) feel unsatisfactory. We tend to “do” Christianity and when life isn’t going well we doubt or get in a funk. What we really need is truly know God. That’s why Jesus Christ had joy. He KNEW the Father intimately. Not in a “yeah, I’m an aquaintance every Sunday” sort of way, but in a rich, beautiful relationship. Anyway, thanks for the quote…sorry for the ramble!
